Goodbye Dandelion-Interview ahead of the Edinburgh Fringe 2026.

As we quickly move towards the start of the Edinburgh Fringe. I have caught up with the team behind Goodbye Dandelion to find out more about their play.

When and where are you performing at the Fringe this year?

Goodbye Dandelion is on at 4.10pm at Underbelly Cowgate.

What was the inspiration for your show?

The show was inspired by the character of Darcy, a rambunctious, vivacious and creative woman in her late 80s, who is based on older people that I know and admire. She has been cropping up wanting to be in my writing for a while now, but it never quite fit, so I decided to give her her own story. The show explores inter-generational friendships and what we can learn from them.

When did you first step on the stage as a performer?

I was about 6, at primary school, we were doing Alice in Wonderland and the casting process was just – ‘Put up your hand if you want to play Alice?’. Obviously all the girls put up their hand – so when they asked who wanted to be the Queen of Hearts, I took my chances. And as I was the only one volunteering, got the part. I just remember loving being able to be so big and bossy and getting some laughs, in a costume my mum made me out of old curtains and red felt.

What is the best piece of advice about working in Theatre you have received?

To always think about the audience’s experience – who they are, what they need to hear or see and what question you’re asking them as a writer or performer. Theatre as a medium is all about the live relationship between all the people in the room and finding the magic in that!

Also, the amazing actor Ron Cook once told me – Tragedy is also just timing, so if you can do comedy, you can do it all.

Who or what inspired you to take to the stage?

My love for performing started in comed y- specifically Smack The Pony, The Mighty Boosh and Greenwing. I used to make all my cousins perform sketches I loved on summer holidays. I was inspired by making up characters that are hilarious but also real and relatable in some way. I still know half the words to Smack The Pony sketches.

Who is your target audience?

Anyone who likes a story. Who likes live music. Who wants a laugh, a cathartic cry, and maybe a little song.
