Mary Mac-Interview ahead of the Edinburgh Fringe 2026.

Mary Mac isn’t a stranger to the stage and has performed all over the world. However, this year will be Mary Mac’s debut, Edinburgh Fringe. I have caught up with her to find out more.

When and where are you performing at the Fringe this year?
Hail Mary The Tartan Songstress is on at The Assembly Rooms Studio 2 from the 5-30th August at 9:35pm, except from the 17th when I’ll be soaking my poor feet.

What was the inspiration for your show?
I was inspired by all my favourite music along with wild and funny stories and events I’ve been through travelling the world whilst performing in pubs and clubs, theatre and on cruise ships.

Have you performed at any other Fringe Festivals before embarking on Edinburgh?
No, this is the premiere of the show and my first time ever performing at the Edinburgh Fringe. As a Scottish Queen it’s wonderful to finally be coming home.

When did you first step on the stage as a performer?
It was when I was 8 years of age performing with my brother in an amateur dramatics production of Singin’ in the Rain. We played the younger versions of the lead characters at the beginning, and even those five minutes on stage convinced me I didn’t want to do anything other than perform the rest of my life.

What is the best piece of advice about working in Theatre you have received?
Treat every audience the same, whether there’s 8 people or 800 people.

Who is your target audience?
Anyone who just wants an hour of pure escapism to laugh, sing, and forget the real world for a moment.
