The Mirror Crack’d at Milll at Sonning.

Who doesn’t enjoy a “Who Dunnit,” especially from the pen of Agatha Christie. The Mill at Sonning is currently hosting The Mirror Crack’d starring Liza Goddard as the fictional Jane Marple/Miss Marple, the amateur crime solving consultant.

The storyline is set set around a glamorous film star, Marina Gregg (Sara Crowe), who returns to St. Mary Mead. Throwing a party at Gossington Hall. However,  as with all Agatha Christie stories, the event ends with a sudden and shocking  death. Once again, Miss Marple is called upon to help solve the mysterious circumstances around death by her nephew Detective (Chief Inspector Craddock), played by James Mack. Is it natural causes or murder?

The action on stage is split between the Gossington Hall and Miss Marples’ homely cottage in the fictional village of St Mary’s Mead. However, Miss Marple is currently sporting an ankle injury and is often chair bound for most of the action, with the characters visiting her for advice.

Miss Marples’ long-standing friend Dolly Bantry (Annie Wensak) and her home help Cherry Baker (Elysia Showan), who is relatively new to the village regularly call in to check on her and keep the cottage ticking over. Although all is not as it appears to be with Cherry Baker (unsurprisingly) and as the dots are linked, Miss Marple finds out more about her heritage and the links to the glamorous Marina Gregg.

This staged version of Agatha Christie’s The Mirror Crack’d, has been adapted by Rachel Wagstaff with the atmospheric split stage designed by Michael Holt. There isn’t a definitive split between the two properties, but the wonderful lighting designer Jamie Platt creates this illusionary line for the audience as the action moves between the two properties.

If murder mystery is your chosen genre, there’s not a nicer venue you could choose to watch this classic Agatha Christie production.

As ever, The Mill at Sonning offers a wonderful dining experience before the show if you choose to take this option. The creme brulee dessert has been especially themed for this production and is delicious.
