Natalie Patuzzo is taking her clowning show Every Single Sound in the World to the Edinburgh Fringe this August. With such an intriguing title, I wanted to find out more about her production.
“Every Single Sound in the World” is an intriguing title. Where did this idea originate from? How long has it been in development?
The idea came from me turning up to comedy clubs with a tesco bag full of props and playing around, imitating the sounds of the objects. In these sets I would promise the audience I would make every single sound in the world in just this short set (that obviously being an immediate joke since its such a ridiculous task!). I was doing this in late 2024, inspired by a tiktok trend me and my flatmate found funny called ‘Make the Noise’ in which we would make noises with random things around the flat and then try to recreate the sound with our voices. I then developed the show into a 30 minute WIP last summer (which was nominated for Best Newcomer at Manchester Fringe 2025)… and now I’m here about to perform my debut hour!
Do you keep a score sheet to monitor all the sounds you hear?
I do not but I love this idea!
What has been the most peculiar sound you have heard and registered so far?
This is hard to say because the most peculiar sounds are often the most unexpected! It’s usually sounds I make accidentally or that an object makes that you wouldn’t expect.
Which other clowns or performers have inspired you to study and practice this genre on becoming a clown?
My very first inspiration was Trygve Wakenshaw. I saw him and Barnie Duncan perform Different Party at London Mime Festival and almost wet myself with laughter! I’d never seen anything like it before. My drama school then sent me on an erasmus to Prague to learn physical theatre, where I was introduced to clown properly and where Trygve happened to live! I was lucky enough to meet him and ask him questions while I was still so early in my clown journey.
Other huge inspirations to me have been:
- Natalie Palamides
- Garry Starr
- Luke Rollason
- Julia Masli
- Dr Brown
Are there any other fields in the arts that you have studied or interested in?
My studies at HAMU in Prague also included mime classes, acrobatics, aerial circus, juggling, and dance (but I was only there for 6 months, please don’t expect me to do backflips!).
I also trained as a theatre director at ALRA and have a day job as a marketer which includes graphic design and video editing.
Is there anything you particularly want audiences to engage with during the show? Is it a family show?
First and foremost I’d just love the audience to join in with the sounds and have fun! However, it also has an underlying story about my experience as an autistic woman. I’d love for anyone who identifies as an outsider to connect with this show.
It’s not listed as a family show, but it’s accessible for ages 12+
Where do you plan on taking the show next?
Before it hits the Edinburgh Fringe I’ll be previewing it in the following places:
My hope is to take it on tour after Edinburgh (so if you’re a programmer get in touch!).
