Jamie Leonard returned to the Edinburgh Fringe this year with his storyline based show Blink of an Eye, which was part of the Just the Tonic free Fringe during August this year.

The eighteen year old magician has an abundance of charisma and confident stage presence, looking completely at home in front of a full auditorium. You instantly feel like you are in safe hands and put at ease.

Although a couple of the tricks are a bit rough around the edges, the majority of his performance is well thought out and delivered with confidence. The audience is completely with him throughout the show, and there’s some audience participation as you’d expect in a magic show, although you have to put your hand up and be included. If you don’t want to be on stage, keep your hand down.

One of the audience members on stage today was actually taught by Leonard’s Dad, who was a teacher. This is the great thing about the Edinburgh Fringe. You never know who will turn up. However, he wasn’t at all thrown by this and carried on as normal.

Leonard has an abundance of determination, and his childhood dreams were to be a performer, and he definitely has a very promising career ahead of him. I can also see him fitting in well in a  Pantomime and could easily incorporate some of his magic into one.

Many of the tricks are card related, his slight of hand abilities are phenomenal, and the water trick had me completely stumped. Which is a sign of a good magician. As he develops his skills and expands his trick catalogue, I look forward to seeing him develop the show further.

I believe he has plans to return next year, I suggest you keep an eye out and go and see his act. You certainly will not be disappointed.
