Hill and Jones Comedy Catastrophe have revamped and tightened up their comedy show that I first reviewed at the Brighton Fringe in 2025 at the same time as the Reviewer from Chortle, if you watch their show all will become clear.
True to my word, “I would like to see them on stage again when they have gained more confidence,” and they certainly have. They have lost the drawn-out part of the act which they used to build up slowly and clumsily to the main body of the sketch, which had on the whole been funny. Sometimes, in comedy, “less is more” in order to make the audience laugh.
Tom Cruise (cardboard cut out) version, probbably only, due to budget restrictions as I am sure he would have joined them otherwise makes a reappearance. This time in the form of a plumber using some of his famous one-liners from his films to discuss the job he has been hired to do. The plot is well thought out, and delivery is slick.
Hills and Jones’s high-energy music montage finale has remained in the show. This version appears to have been worked on and again much smoother than the last version I watched.
Overall, this comedy duo is very talented and has a strong working relationship on stage. They play to their individual strengths and bring out the best in each other. Comedy is a tough genre, and making people laugh can be challenging. The auditorium in Folkestone were certainly enjoying themselves on Saturday evening.
I look forward to seeing what the comedy duo does next.
