Little Pink Dress is a coming of age and “coming out” musical performance by singer song writer Joey Jennings. From an early age he knew he was gay and loved dressing up in his mother’s clothes.
Being bought up by a single mother, he felt more comfortable being himself, and she never questioned him about who he was.
Jennings talks about his experiences with acting auditions for minor and major roles in various productions. From his performance in Little Pink Dress, I am surprised he didn’t get more work.
One thing is clear by Jennings: Performance is that he is an incredible singer and has written a wide range of music that accompanies his life story.
Navigating the world as a gay man wasn’t straightforward, and he openly discusses his alcohol issues and failed relationships as he battles with finding out who he truly is. There’s no “woe is me” moments he just lays bare who he was and where he is now.
Jennings changes the situation and mood from his life events and experiences through each musical number. From the range of gay stereotypes told through each of the star signs song (which was very good), his first crush and his first physical car (crash). Each of these events moulded him into the person he is today.
If you are a musical fan, I would highly recommend catching Little Pink Dress while it is performing at the Edinburgh Fringe. Jennings is an incredible and engaging performer.
