Mervyn Stutters 30th Charity Gala.

Mervyn Stutter has been a regular feature at the Edinburgh Fringe for over 30 years. His Pick of the Fringe show celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2023, a huge achievement. Introducing the Gala he jokes that over the years some of the choices “that you might think some of the acts are shit, but its good quality shit”.

Over thirty years have seen many famous names take their shows to Edinburgh and be spotted by Stutter’s team and then invited to showcase on his daily show. He is well known and trusted at the Fringe and has a large fan base who look to him for recommendations.

The Gala saw the auction take the place of the famous pink jacket always worn bu Mervyn on the show. The jacket had been signed by many of the big names over the years and was won by a lucky audience member. He assured the winner that it had been laundered beforehand.

There are some regular Fringe goers who will always go to watch the show before deciding on what shows they will see each year and trust his choice completely. A couple in the queue were having this very conversation while we all waited to go in.

Performances by Ed Byrne and Jo Caulfield added comedy to the gala. A fabulous performance by A Comedy of Opera plus a condensed performance by the famous Improv performers from Showstoppers to name but a few all supported the Gala and have performed on Pick of the Fringe over the years.

Mervyn Stutter bought across the troupe Yes-Ya-Yebo who are from the townships that Mervyn’s previous Galas have supported financially as part of The Imibala Trust Charity. Their performances were brilliant and it is the first time I have seen Wellington boots become a musical instrument.
