With the Edinburgh Fringe now into its first week, I have caught up with Bailey Edwards to talk about his Edinburgh Fringe debut Play Dead.
When and where are you performing at the Fringe this year?
The dog crate will be in Underbelly’s Iron Belly at 3.40pm for the
full run of the festival.
What was the inspiration for your show?
It is a show about the kidnapping of an ex’s dog, so I’ve been legally advised not to comment. But I can say I was interested in the classical origins of love, specifically looking at the myth of Echo and that inexplicable drive to melt into the person you love.
Have you performed at any other Fringe Festivals before
embarking on Edinburgh?
First Edinburgh and first Fringe! We did perform in a festival in the mountains of Japan that was three trains and bus away from
Tokyo.
Have you been given any advice or help from performers or creatives who have previously been to the Edinburgh Fringe?
To go jump in the sea. I’m going to be like a labrador after a long
car ride—tongue hanging out and running straight into the waves.
What is the best piece of advice about working in Theatre you have received?
Remember it’s not for you. It’s for the audience. And pick up your cues—although you could argue that’s the same advice.
