George Maguire-Interview ahead of the Edinburgh Fringe 2026.

With just a few days left now before this years annual, Edinburgh Fringe begins. I have caught up with George Maguire to chat about his upcoming show.

When and where are you performing at the Edinburgh Fringe?

In What I Am
Greenside at George Street
22 – 26 George Street, Edinburgh EH2 2PQ.
7 – 15 August at 13.50.

Have you performed at any other Fringe Festivals before embarking on Edinburgh?      No, this is my first ever fringe festival. It’s very exciting to be doing the amazing Edinburgh fringe to break my festival cherry.
Have you been given any advice or help from performers or creatives who have
previously been to the Edinburgh Fringe?

A friend of mine performed in a two hander called The Standard Short Long Drop, which was an incredible play. His best advice was to just be ready because the speed of the turnaround before each show is unlike anything else which when one is already nervous, can create chaos. Haha, I will be ready.
When did you first step on the stage as a performer?

My first professional acting job was in Oliver! at the London Palladium in 1995 with Jonathan Pryce as Fagin. I’ll never forget the feeling of being on that huge stage in front of 2000 people every night.
What is the best piece of advice about working in Theatre you have received?    To just take each day as it comes, be open and ready to learn. I’m constantly learning and I’ve been doing they’re since I was 11.
How did you first get into the Theatre industry?

I started out at a part time school on Saturdays, learning acting, singing and dancing. I was pretty much the only boy which could have turned me off or made me feel inhibited but I loved it so much and always knew I wanted to do it in some way.
Who or what inspired you to take to the stage?

I have always loved music, and even though I’m very into rock and alternative music, when I was a kid, Michael Jackson inspired me the most. I just felt completely in awe of his all-round level of creativity, presence, and talent.
Who is your target audience? Are you planning on seeing any shows this year? If so, do you have recommendations?    At the moment I’m looking forward to getting to the Fringe and seeing what other people suggest.
