The Trials of Magnus Coffinkey! By Harry Elletson
Malcolm and Angéle Galea’s is described as a broken fairy tale that is exploring grief and loss through the metaphor of the land of broken toys.

Joseph Zammit plays the bellhanger Magnus Coffinkey and Rebecca Camilleri plays a wide range of characters that Magnus meets along his journey before he starts the job and after the job takes a bad turn and he finds himself somewhere else.

Magnus Coffinkey lives in the fictional world of broken toys. He hasn’t been given a bell mending job that he hasn’t completed. However, he now has a challenging job to do, and that’s to mend a broken bell in a very high tower. This is possibly one job that he might not be able to fix.

There are deeper themes running throughout the play, and its main focus is the trauma and grief suffered by the couple, which is bought on after she  had a late stage miscarriage. Dealing with the loss and trying to understand what happened is predominantly told through the Fairytale characters.

Reality and fiction merge throughout the storyline using the characters to take the audience to some very dark  places of depression and grief, with moments of humour and brutal honesty. After a brief conversation with the writers when they were flyering, they explained the baby loss was their story. Some of the best productions are created by those who have experienced it first hand.
