Henry VIII and His Groom play have arrived for the final week of the Edinburgh Fringe at Paradise, The Vaults. If you haven’t yet ventured there, it’s an atmospheric setting and welcoming venue a typical off the track fringe space, worth at least one visit during your Fringe.

It’s certainly a different perspective on the relationship that Henry VIII might have possibly had with his personal groom. The intimacy of their relationship predominantly took place while Henry was taking care of his personal business on the “Royal Throne.” Which his groom made sure was created by the finest materials and jewels, befitting a royal bottom.

Whether or not Henry VIII would have shared intimate details about his relationship with his first wife and their problems in conceiving children isn’t fully known. Although it’s very possible, he might have talked to his personal groom where he felt relaxed.

There’s humour, toilet comedy the groom needs to (remember to wash his hands), and the darker depths of history which depicts the King as quite a ruthless man in the pursuit of what he wanted to do, especially in the quest to create a legitimate male heir to his throne.

Henry VIII and His Groom is a good play to start off your fringe day with. History isn’t too heavy and offers some laughs throughout the performance.
