Bloody Mary(s) is an intriguing title for an Edinburgh Fringe show. Everyone knows a Mary, Maria or Miriam or has at least heard of one of the many famous ones introduced during the show. From Mary Magdalene, Mary Shelley to Mary Quant. I was disappointed when Mary Wolstencraft was voted out of our dinner party guests.

Lottie Walker promises to deliver the audience sixty Mary’s in sixty minutes and has become a self-appointed “Marylogyst,” and after watching Bloody Mary(s), she certainly deserves that title too. It’s a great mastermind category to have.

However, as we are taken on a tour of the famous Mary’s in history, the audience have to decide who they would love the chance to talk to at a fictional dinner party, by cheering or booing. The show requires audience participation after all its “our” dinner party. However, it’s nothing awkward or embarrassing. You might even get a gift!

From the queen of fashion Mary Quant, Frankenstein author Mary Shelley or the fictional childcare provider Mary Poppins, who might whip up some magic out of her bag at the same time. There’s quite a range of guests to vote for, and from today’s selection, it was going to be a busy night.

Walker’s research into all the ladies featured in this show has been thorough. With many of the ladies featured, both sides of their characters are discussed. Some of whom you would definitely not want to invite for dinner just in case they decided to turn nasty and do away with you or your other guests.
