GUMSHOE! by Christian Dart, where audiences are taken back to 1940’s America, with this noir detective complete with rainncoat, who is running out of time and luck fast.
The streets of New York are dangerous, and unsolved cases are GUMSHOE’s speciality. We join him. As he prepares to embark on his most ridiculous case yet (decided with the help of the audience), get ready for everyone to find out whodunnit!
With a 10am breakfast of whisky and a knack for finding himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. The washed-up detective has a likeable charm about him and plenty of charisma.
There’s a lot of audience participation throughout the show. Please don’t let that put you off. The fourth wall isn’t broken in this show it simply doesn’t exist. In today’s show, we had some incredibly good parcipants who I think also had shows here by their performances. No, it isn’t pre-planned or staged. This means that each show will be slightly different, so you can watch it more than once.
With a range of pre-recorded voiceovers and brilliant placed cues, it allows Dart to jump between different roles and interact with other characters mentioned throughout the storyline and vital to the plot. As you’d expect, there’s plenty of gunshots.
Dart also had to deal with props going wrong (i.e., over zealous parcipants with water pistols), which he handled perfectly with humour. The show has plenty of high energy and fast-paced humour. Expect the unexpected just as Dart did.
