Dede Lovejoy is bringing her play SHAMANIAC-a Spiritual Traumedy to Greenside for the Edinburgh Fringe. I have quickly caught up with her ahead of the Edinburgh madness.
When and where are you performing at the Fringe this year?
SHAMANIAC – A Spiritual Traumedy is playing at The Mint Studio at Greenside at George Street at 4.15pm. Misfortunes of a Spy and Her Mystic is at The Olive at Greenside at George Street at 6.15pm
What was the inspiration for your show?
A series of debilitating seizures, a broken heart and some freak accidents inspired an unconventional recovery path too bizarre not to share.
When did you first step on the stage as a performer?
At age 12 I snagged the role of a no neck monster in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at the Elkhart Civic Theatre, but my first step on stage was as a duck in Ms. Sally’s Dance class recital at age 4.
Have you been able to stay within a realistic budget for your production?
Ha Ha Ha The Budget is a sticky wicket. .
How have you raised funds to put your show on?
Friends!
How did you first get into the Theatre industry?
My mother shoved me onto the stage.
Who or what inspired you to take to the stage?
Marcia. My mother. She was born to be an actor and she was really insistent that I follow her dreams.
Who is your target audience?
Anyone who is human. Also, anyone who’s ever had a broken heart. Or bone.
