New Year’s Eve ended my Pantomime reviewing season for this 2025 Christmas season. Jack and the Beanstalk is playing in Weymouth Pavilion until Sunday 4th January 2026.
Jack Trott is played by the X Factor semi-finalist JJ Hamblett alongside his onstage brother Silly Simon stand-up comedian Dean Winters whose quick wit and fast-paced humour reaches across the whole family. Luckily the adult-themed jokes fly over the children’s heads.
Their Mum is played by Jamie Riding who, at the age of 25 takes on the role of Dame Daisy Trott. He is a natural in the role of Dame. Taking the position seriously. He designs and creates his own costumes alongside using some by the late John Inman. There are times when you know you are watching someone performing who has real potential to succeed and influence others in their chosen field.
Pantomime is all about the suspension of disbelief yet the onstage rapport of the family dynamics of the Trotts has some believable elements, even though you are fully aware it’s biologically an impossible situation.
Fairy Liquid (Katie James) plays the side of honesty and truth of the storyline with Andrew Goddard playing the darker side in the role of Fleshcreep. Who wants to create chaos and find people to feed to his master. Can he find redemption?
I have seen several Jack and the Beanstalk productions this season and this is the first one I have personally seen that has used a traditional Pantomime Cow with two actors inside a cow suit.
In this production, Daisy the Cow is more than just a saleable commodity. The entire Trott family are deeply attached to her and genuinely torn when the reality of their financial situation is discussed. With a heartfelt song dedicated to her sale with a promise from Dame Trott that they will buy her back when things improve.
With only a few performances left if you are in a position to go and watch this Pantomime i can highly recommend it. I am looking forward to their 2026 production of Cinderella.
