The Mill at Sonning is a beautiful location set on the River Bank in Sonning, Berkshire. Where better to host the socialite wedding of the year between Tracy Lord (Victoria Serra) and George Kitteridge (Will Richardson) in their latest in-house production High Society.
However, the path of true love never runs smoothly. Especially when the dashing charismatic ex-husband Dexter Haven (Matt Blaker) turns up with a heart full of regret and a unique sentimental wedding gift.
High Society offers a few twists and turns along the way. Family dynamics are tested and relationships challenging at times. Having money certainly doesn’t automatically make life easy, just allows the champagne to flow freely!
Blaker and Matthew Jean in the role of Mike Connor the undercover photographer perform strong solo numbers. Their performances are flawless throughout.
Set designer Jason Denvir creates an interchangeable set comprising three main pieces that create fresh settings throughout the performance. With the ocean backdrop sets the scene for life in High Society.
The intimacy of the auditorium allows for an unrestricted view from all the seating locations. The two staircases in the auditorium allow the cast to use the entire theatre area. You cannot predict who will be appearing from where next.
Jaye Elster’s choreography delivers a range of tap, jazz, and contemporary routines all delivered with high-class perfection and impeccable style by the entire cast. Which are all set to Cole Porter’s music and lyrics.
Each Theatre ticket includes the price of an all-you-can-eat buffet-style cooked lunch, and dessert with after-dinner coffee. This time of year a fantastic Christmas Dinner is available, which was delicious.
