Susie aka Priscilla takes to the stage with her one-woman play Priscilla Queen of the Disaster. An honest look at her own experiences as a Mother and how it changed and shaped her body and life in a way she never imagined.
Forced into a situation she never anticipated. There is one raw and heart-wrenching moment in her performance that took me a bit by surprise. I would go as far as to say that I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house during one particular scene.
Susie takes a look at “Mothers” on social media and the world of social influences where the reality is often different. In the pictures and photographs, you will see the perfect family unit. Often fights and battles have been taking place moments before those photos were taken.
The details Susie describes after having a Caesarean section were very close to home for me. At one point she describes how the large wound pressing put on after the delivery has to be removed the next day bringing back a few toe-curling memories. Trust “us” it’s not a case of being too “posh to push”.
With strong language, the narrative highlights the importance of having good friendships the kind that makes you feel safe, filled with laughter and unquestionable trust. Above all else no matter what you do or what happens they never judge you.
If Priscilla Queen of the Disaster comes to a Theatre near you I would highly recommend booking tickets. It is one of the most honest and loving insights into how having children can turn your world on its head.
