Meet Joyce (Sheila Burt) hopeful lead singer in the next production put on by Little Grimley Amateur Dramatics Society. The only problem is Joyce can’t sing in tune as eloquently told to her by Gordon (Patric Howe) in Last Panto in Little Grimley. Tact is not his strength as he tries hard to take charge.
Margaret (Leigh Cunningham) and Bernard (Peter McCrohon) steal the show with their constant bickering, snarky remarks and well-aimed sarcasm. The pair would be the bain of any producer’s life in the rehearsals but as a comedy duo, it is brilliant entertainment.
Budgets are low, by that I mean non-existent funding out of Gordon’s pocket I expect if the storyline expanded that far. Everything is made on a shoestring or by Margaret’s sewing class pupils, which isn’t easy to get past the powers that be.

It dates back to the 1990s when technology was making an appearance. Gordon boasts about using his new laser printer which comes complete with its own language (the qwerty keyboard has been designed out of sync) which makes for some extremely funny misprinted script lines.
Amidst the angst, dramatic setbacks and makeshift sets the cast of four at the Amateur Dramatics Society is determined to put on a highly polished “professional” performance to the audience of 238 who are waiting in the auditorium for them. Break a leg everyone!
If you want tips on how to put on a good production from this society, then whatever you do don’t ask Gordon. If you do want a good night out with plenty of laughs then I can highly recommend The Last Panto in Little Grimley directed by Becky James and Steve Pitt.
