Yuffa Fringe productions bring two plays explaining the stories of Natasha Advani Thangkhiew and Shahara’s experiences from two underrepresented Indian Identities in What Can Indian Look Like? I only saw one of the two productions, which was the story told by Natasha.

Exploring the questions about what it means to be from different Indian regions, those who are deemed lowly and poor compared to other wealthy regions who looked down on her at school. The treatment and isolation she received shocked me and were completely unjustified.

Her personal experiences are told using humour and storytelling. She’s not looking for sympathy it’s about raising awareness of how other cultures respond to one another and the disrespect and hostility received. This story isn’t going to have been an isolated incident.

Making use of the projection screen a changing school landscape appears through most of the performance setting the play firmly in the school environment. The design reminded me of the Charlie Brown school desks in the famous Charles. M Shultz cartoons.

The attraction for me towards Fringe Theatre is the diversity of productions available and the ever-changing subjects I am ashamed to say I know nothing about. Every day is a school day in reviewing Fringe Theatre especially at the Edinburgh Fringe with over 3.5k shows to choose between.
