Growing up watching the carry on films was an integral part of my childhood. Can’t Stop Carrying On a one man performance by Darren Haywood in the role of Peter Rogers the man behind the idea of Carry On.

Based on the life story of Peter Rogers from the carry on franchise. He’s finding it hard Let go and to realise That the material used in the carrying old films is no longer relevant in today’s society bawdy sexist behaviour is no longer acceptable. However, he is desperate to have just one more big hit.

Iconic Carry On characters come to life throughout the performance from the late Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Charles Hawtrey and Barbara Windsor. There’s an argument between James and Windsor which you could imagine taking place.

Sadly we learn a few things about the demise of Charles Hawtrey whose unfulfilled career in acting led him to drink. It’s worth researching his life to find out more about his long career.

The play highlights the way in which Rogers ran the franchise and how he treated the cast. They weren’t paid correctly or very much at all. Nowadays they would have contracts in place and would have been paid fairly, plus the repeat royalties.

Although the Edinburgh Fringe is coming to an end there’s talk of taking this play out on tour. If will be worth looking out for it if they “Carry On” near you.
