MEDICO By Stefania Licari.

Medico offers a first-hand look at what it’s like to be an NHS Doctor from an Italian migrant perspective and what it means to be British, by award-winning comedian and real-life Dr. Stefania Licari.

Humour is an essential asset to possess when you’re working in some of the bleakest situations, attempting to navigate your job, waiting lists, racism and long working hours. If I understand correctly having a sense of humour is in the job description!

Medico is a far slicker and smoother production since I first saw it last year. Licarii has downsized and uses fewer props on stage, which frees Licari up to concentrate on delivering directly to the audience and it felt like the audience interaction was greater and more responsive. The bladder and a few other medical utensils still make an appearance.

I thought it also helped by being performed in a smaller venue, where Licari should see the majority of the audience. Engaging with the audience is easier and allows for some entertaining heckling, which was dealt with brilliantly. Especially as some of the audience members interacted more than others!

Laughter is one the best medicines so check in to an hour’s appointment and catch Medico at the Edinburgh Fringe.
