Everything wrong and obscene with some public school boys and privileged children has been captured in the play TRUST. Their abandonment of responsibility regardless of the situation they create and their flippant attitude to money are highlighted in the play.

Fuelled by alcohol and drugs Charlie (Hamish Dickens) introduces Verity to his long-term friends on what turns out to be the evening of their wedding. However, happy ever after isn’t exactly what Charlie is looking for. Its Access to his trust fund and to carry on living irresponsibly with a healthy bank balance behind him.

Lydia (Daisy Lillington Patterson) has been the boys’ friend or rather “fall guy” for many years. She’s in love with Charlie whose out of bounds due to his Mother and has settled for second-best Xavier (Marcus Judd) who has a roving eye for just about anyone!

Tom (Dylan Swain) appears to be the voice and pillar of reason initially. He too has a darker flawed side which allows him to fit in perfectly with the rest of the friends circle. A case of “keep your friends close and your enemies closer”.

Although the storyline appears far-fetched to many people I am in no doubt that events similar to those in the play happen in certain circles where money and entitlement have a language all of its own.

With many interwoven storylines and characters leaving and returning to the stage frequently. Director Freddie Lawson has created a dark look into a world I am relieved not to be a part of.

In all honesty, if these characters were your friends you would be better off without them!
