Finlay and Joe return to the Edinburgh Fringe 2023 with their latest comedy sketch show Past Our Bedtime. The comedy duo have come back stronger and more confident in their performances, which is great to see.
Merging many children’s Bedtime stories into short sketches engages the audience as many of us know the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears (just not in a cafe), King Midas on the toilet turning everything to gold (use your imagination) and Jack facing council legislation for the Beanstalk growing in his back garden. Intrigued? It’s cleverly bought into a modern society environment.
Running throughout is Joe introducing Finlay to a handbook by Kate Ooloo. Unbeknown to Finlay Joe has cut a deal with the author that could cost them more than money!
I was expecting at one point for Finlay to say “That’s another fine mess…” to Joe as the reality of the situation hits home. As was often heard by the late comedy geniuses Laurel and Hardy, when Laurel makes a catastrophic blunder.
One thing that is apparent in their performances is the excellent working rapport between them. The close working relationship allows the comedy act to flow smoothly and it never feels forced which is important to keep the audience engaged and more importantly laughing.
If comedy is your chosen genre or you fancy a change then I can recommend Finlay and Joe. Two easily likeable and personable comedians who deserve to be successful.
