Diana:The Untold and Untrue Story by Linus Karp.

Linus Karp brings a touch of his unique queer style to the Edinburgh Fringe, in the Pleasance Dome. Recreating the “untold” and “untrue” life of Diana Princess of Wales. Although some of the life events performed had taken place it’s unlikely that the dialogue during those events was even close to Karps scripted version.

Diana, Princess of Wales returns from heaven to discuss her life, love, betrayal and death. Almost 25 years on her memory still lives on strong in many people’s hearts and memories. The recent sell-out shows reflect her continued popularity.

Karp captures the side-eye looks Diana perfected and became infamous for along with some of the famous poses caught on camera during her lifetime in her role of Princess. Grace, style and elegance are in abundance as Karp commands the stage. Prepare to laugh at some dark comedic scenes as Diana takes revenge for her ill-treatment by the monarchy.

There’s a large amount of audience participation required to play various members of the Rital household, including a corgi. Relax, these are agreed upon before the performance begins. The cardboard cut out of The then Prince of Wales appears almost lifelike taking backstage to Diana.

The ongoing feud between Diana and the Queen whose screened interaction is performed by Geri Allen. Reiterating her role as the “Queen” at any given opportunity to keep Diana in her place. Watch out for the “scarlet woman” whose frequent appearance created a strong reaction from the audience.

Remember to check out the Princess name generator that takes centre stage upon arrival. There was plenty of discussion and laughter around me as people read out their own Princess titles.

Four Stars.
