Ahead of his journey to the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe this year. I caught Phil Greens’ new comedy production at Aces and Eights part of the 2023 Camden Fringe. Four Weddings and a Breakdown which does exactly what it says in the title.
The comedian takes you through the four weddings he has attended. Including the non-wedding where the bride called it off and the groom and his friends decided to have an event regardless as it was already paid for. In times of austerity “waste not want not”.
Greens up and downs since 2011 have been bizarrely documented by the pop group Sugababes album titles. He links the major events in his life through their warning titles. The links are fairly ambiguous yet very funny.
Openly discussing his mental health and how friends and family approached him when he disclosed what he was going through. One friend suggested redecoration to change the scenery in his home!
If you want to understand more about Generation X -Baby Boomers Green has certainly done his homework and explains in his style how each generation responds to life and what their own “thing” is for their generation. I find it all confusing at times, thanks for explaining it in simple terms.
His anecdotes and observations are met with humour and openness. We are indeed told in the face of adversity you either laugh or you cry. Personally, like Green, I would rather laugh.
If your looking for light hearted comedy during the Fringe then check out Four Weddings and a Breakdown. Joke of tge Fringe might even be hiding in their too.
