Interstellar-Royal Albert Hall.

There’s nothing like watching a brilliant film on the big screen. However, the screen at the Royal Albert Hall is outstanding and bought their latest film event featuring Interstellar starring Matthew McConaughey and John Lithgow.

Interstellar is the 2014 film about an ex-pilot who returned to work on the family farm. Cooper (McConaughey) stumbles upon mystery coordinates, which leads him to a secret bunker. As the right man for the unpublished mission by NASA, he leaves his family and a failing Earth behind to lead an expedition travelling beyond this galaxy in search of a new beginning to save mankind.

The film boasts some big names alongside the main characters, Anne Hathaway, Sir Michael Caine, Jessica Chastain, Matt Damon, and Casey Affleck.

Accompaning the film and performing the musical score live is the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, conducted by Ben Palmer, and acclaimed organist Roger Sayer playing the Royal Albert Halls Grand Organ, an impressive sight lit up beneath the screen. Personally, I was immersed in the fim and didn’t find the light a distraction.

The orchestra captures the atmosphere and intestifies the action and impact of the dramatic scenes throughout Interstellar. Alongside the sharp silence during one of space scenes where the spaceship is floating to its destination.

Watching a film accompanied by a live orchestra is a first-time experience for me. One I would highly recommend. The auditorium appeared to be a full house. This became apparent at the end when the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra received a well-deserved standing ovation, and the auditorium erupted with applause.

Whether you have watched the film before or not, these performances offer a different viewing perspective and a treat to watch the incredible Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra performing live. I highly recommend catching one of their future events. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Brassed Off, and Maltilda are a selection of the ones playing this season.

Five Stars.
