This year Poole Lighthouse hosts Dick Whittington for its seasonal Pantomime. Keiran Morris takes the lead as Dick Whittington as he embarks on his journey to London and becomes Lord Mayor (after an adventure) though.
Meeting Alice Fitzwarren (Isabella Kibble) when he arrives in London changes his life and the couple fall for one another. Taking a job in her father’s shop, Alderman Fitzwarren (Robert Rees) life takes a nasty turn when the rats become involved led by King Rat.

King Rat played by the talented Sarah Louise Young pulled as many “boos” out from the audience as possible. While at the same time performing some well known songs and dancing with her “rat pack” as King Rat plots what changes will be made when he becomes Mayor of London. Listen carefully as these might effect you should King Rat succeed.
A special mention has to be given to Corben Howard-Mills who plays the non-speaking role of Tommy the Cathe. Actions speak louder than words as Tommy chases away the infestation of ratlings, tries to avoid boarding the ship to the Isle of Wight, and forms a relationship with Dick Whittington.

Dame Dolly Doughnuts (Chris Jarvis) uses plenty of doughnut references to make all the family laugh and they certainly did. Not sure I will look at a box of “Cadbury Chocolate fingers” in the same light. However, that reference is only for the adults and probably older teenagers. Certainly a different performance than you would see on CBeebies.
The sponsor for Poole Lighthouse Pantomime this year is the National Express bus company. They get a mention on occasions throughout the, Pantomime.
However, in Act Two a fantastic set is performed using the 1998 song by Divine Comedy called National Express. Anyone familiar with the song will understand the role that Dame Dolly Doughnuts takes on as “the jolly hostess, selling crisps and drinks” It’s a brilliant scene and a reminder of how great that song is. Bought to life by Daniel Donaldson Todd’s choreography skills and timing.

The entire production team have created a funny, colourful and entertaining first-class family Pantomime. Even sneaking in a section of The Pink Pony Club song which has been a popular theme this year along with “6-7” and “Jet 2 Holidays”.
