Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs-New Victoria Theatre Woking.

The Wicked Queen played by the wickedly talented Lesley Joseph is part of a fun-filled cast that retells (sort of) the classic fairy tale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Princess Snow White (Briana Craig) and Prince William of Westfield (Scott Maurice) meet at the beginning of the tale and despite neither of them believing in love at first sight. The Pantomime magic takes over. However, happy ever after endings never happen immediately. The Queen has other ideas for the Prince. Joseph releases her character Dorien from the 1980’s sitcom Birds of a Feather who chased any man with a pulse.

The evening is led by Aaron James in the role of Muddles, the Jester. It was a long tradition for castles to have a Jester and James fulfils this role with ease. Causing no end of chaos in the “12 Days of Christmas” song. Nobody was safe from his antics and the audience was laughing and cheering him on. I am not sure how much was scripted or not. Audiences are in for a treat.

Judge Rinder brightens up the stage playing the Man in the Mirror, don’t think for one moment that the mirror is static. This is one mirror that knows how to bedazzle and entertain in equal measures.

The Magnificent cast of seven who play the Dwarfs are all superb and bring each of the dwarf characters to life. Especially sleepy who is often “napping” on stage. They do an excellent job of protecting Princess Snow White, until her cover is blown. No spoilers as the fairytale is well known.

Costume designer Teresa Nalton recreates the iconic outfit of Snow White, the Man in the Mirror who certainly adds a dash of bling to the stage. However, the stunning ensemble costumes and the dress worn by Joseph in the potion scene are all incredible and bring the dark sinister activity to life. Along with the eye-catching dance movements to accompany the spell-creating number by the choreographer Joanna Goodwin.
