JW3 in Finchley Road, London is a striking and impressive centre used by the Jewish community. There’s a range of facilities inside including a good-sized Theatre, where this years festive production Cinderella and The Matzo Ball is being performed.

Their seasonal performance Cinderella and The Matzo Ball has been based on the original ancient folklore tale Cinderella but with a Jewish Twist.

Talia Pick makes her Pantomime debut as the hard-working baker Cinderella who’s desperate to go to the ball in the hope of meeting the Prince (Ronan Quiniou). “Be careful what you wish for” comes to mind as the tale begins to unfold.

In Act Two the plot twists and the Prince turns out to be less than charming. He is looking for a rich bride to save him in order to carry on his entitled extravagant lifestyle without working!

Cinderella has to escape to free herself of his hate campaign towards her and his slandering television interview and takes herself off to the seaside. Where her family and loved ones track her down.

Although they find themselves trying to escape from the “giant prawn” instead! Who does not appear keen on becoming a sandwich regardless of how fresh the bread is.

It’s not a traditional storyline as many will know. Writer Nick Cassembaum has recreated the storyline and added some talking bread into the script. You never know what you will find in the “Yeast Finchley” Bakery in the Kosher Kingdom.

Suitable for the family and the younger members of the audience were really enjoying the interactions. As a non-Jewish speaker, I didn’t understand all of the references used during the Pantomime although that didn’t stop me from understanding the storyline.
