Looking for Me Friend is a wonderful celebration and trip down memory lane for all fans of the late Queen of comedy Victoria Wood who died in 2016. Written and performed by the charismatic Paulus and directed by Sarah Louise-Young accompanied on the piano by musical director Michael Roulston.
Wood used observational comedy and understood how to take the mundane from everyday life and create comedy. Nothing highlights this better than the famous Two Soups scene performed by the fabulous Julie Walters.
Paulus understands the impact Wood has had on so many people since she first appeared on our television screens in 1974. Looking for Me Friend takes a selection of the best bits written and created by Wood and pays tribute to her memory.
Personally, my favourite Wood comedy is Dinnerladies this series has helped me navigate some incredibly dark periods in my life through laughter. Wood felt like a friend holding my hand although I never met her and beyond her work was incredibly private. What a gift to leave behind for her many fans.
However, if you aren’t aware of the work by Wood then this show is a fantastic beginner’s guide with plenty of her iconic songs and quotes to tempt you into delving into the Wood comedy archives. A trip that is always worth taking.

The tour is running until next year and ends in Bury. I can highly recommend catching it before it ends and reliving some of the wonderful memories recreated by Paulus and accompanied throughout by Roulston. The duo has a fantastic rapport reminiscent of Wood and Walters knowing how to deliver comedy smoothly.
