Inspector Morse: House of Ghosts-New Victoria Theatre Woking.

Inspector Morse:House of Ghosts stars Tom Chambers as Detective Chief Inspector Morse alongside DS Lewis played by Tachia Newall. Morse isn’t the easiest person to work and Lewis is often frustrated with unexpected overtime sprung on him at a moment’s notice.

House of Ghosts begins as a murder enquiry as a female actor dies suddenly on stage and the theatre is closed as the police move in to start their investigation. However, the director of the Theatre production of Hamlet currently in rehearsals turns out to be Lawrence (Robert Mountford) whom Morse went to Universit alongside and for a while were friends.

As the story unfolds with unexpected twists along the way, very much in keeping with the television production of Morse this murder enquiry turns out to be far more complex than initially thought and together Morse and Lewis untangle the threads to find out who and why the person killed their victim.

The staged production is worth going to see whether you are a fan of Morse or not as it’s a good “Whodunnit” although part of the enjoyment of watching Morse for me is seeing the iconic buildings and countryside that Oxford has to offer. Although the staging is very good and depicts the chaos and props of a theatre-staged rehearsal space, the local pub and police station these venues could have been anywhere in the country and not specifically in the beautiful city of Oxford.

Inspector Morse: House of Ghosts marks the first-ever stage adaptation of the iconic detective. ITV’s long-running Inspector Morse, hailed by Radio Times as ‘The greatest British crime series of all time’, has inspired equally beloved spin-offs, Lewis and Endeavour. Starring Tom Chambers (Father Brown, Strictly Come Dancing) as Inspector Morse, this original story written for the stage is a must-see for fans of compelling detective stories and thrilling mysteries.
