Rumpus Theatre Company’s latest production SORRY, I LOVE YOU takes the audience on a pre-Valentine journey where finding love happens when the couple least expects it.
Helen played by Juliette Strobel finds herself homeless after the final huge row with her ex-boyfriend Peter. With only a suitcase of belongings to her name and a chance meeting with a Tramp, her life is about to take a different path.
John Goodrum author and The Tramp among a host of other characters. Adds a touch of mystery to the story about finding love in the darkest of times.

Jools played by Pavan Maru has been called by Peter to pop around to see him as Helen leaves. Neither he nor Helen had met before despite Jools being Peter’s best friend! And the couple has been together for five years.
After a whirlwind romance across several countries, you have to suspend your disbelief as travelling without the right documents pre-planned might not have been this straightforward. We are in the world of romance fiction and anything is possible.
The road to true love is apparently never smooth and this couple certainly meets challenges along the way. The storyline is balanced and both parties’ feelings and fears are explained when they are in conversation with one another. I didn’t find myself siding with either and saw it from both perspectives. However, this is all I am willing to divulge to prevent any spoiler alerts.

The uncanny resemblance between the various characters played by Goodrum isn’t missed by Helen as she comments openly to Jools. (We know what casting budgets can be like) Actors doubling up is nothing unusual and Goodrum plays them all with ease and I especially found the cafe owner funny, although the fact that the orders were never right could be an allergens lawsuit waiting to happen!
As I saw the final performance at the Haymarket Theatre, Basingstoke I can’t recommend catching it before it ends. I hope it returns to the stage and bringing a touch if romance back to audiences.
