National Theatre live:Mrs Warren’s Profession-Nova Cinema Woking.

National Theatre live performances are an excellent way of getting up close to National Theatre productions through the cinema. There’s no battle with large venues, lots of stairs and every seat in the Nova Cinema in Woking allows you an unrestricted view of the screen, with more leg room too.

Mrs Warren’s Profession is based on the story of Vivie played by Bessie Carter a no-nonsense young lady who wants a career and a life provided for her by her own hard work and sacrifices. Turning her back on the patriarchal life of marriage and codependency on a husband that her Mother played by Imelda Staunton encourages her daughter to follow to have financial security.

The relationship between Mother and Daughter is challenging and neither wants to change their opinions or lifestyle direction. Leaving Vivie to make a hard choice about their relationship moving forward.

The final scene offers a powerful clash of two very determined women who do not understand each other’s feelings or paths. Just because you are related and have a bond by birth it doesn’t mean you agree or follow the same principles.

These live screenings offer an excellent way for audiences who find getting to London expensive or difficult due to mobility or transport issues to watch big productions in comfort.

I especially liked the changing camera angles when watching Mrs Warren’s Profession in the cinema. It allows the cinema audiences to see the actors and the stage closer up than a Theatre audience will.
