The Trojan Women of Today.
Georgia, the producer for “The Trojan Women of Today” performing on October 6th at The Golden Goose Theatre has taken some time out to talk to me about their production.
What was the inspiration behind your show?
We wanted to explore the inseparable bond between Greek Drama and the human condition. Anchored in Euripides’ tragedy Trojan Women, we wanted to use the stories of Hecuba, Andromache, Cassandra, and the chorus of the Trojan women, to create a performance that gives a voice to all the women who have and continue to be silenced all over the world even today.
How long has your production been in progress?
We have been developing this project for a few months as we really wanted to deeply dive into and explore Greek Drama as a distinct theatre genre. We began by exploring the roots and the political environment in which that genre flourished. We also wanted to find the right blend between the original play and the contemporary elements that reflects its relevance in our days.
Where are you planning on taking the play next?
We are working on touring the play initially to counties neighbouring London with a long- term ambition to take it abroad. However, these plans are still in the early stages of development.
What would you like audiences to take away from your show?
We want our audiences to leave with a greater awareness and empathy for the issues addressed in our play. We hope it raises their social consciousness and encourages them to ask more questions about what is happening around them.

What are you looking forward to most about performing your show?
This is our debut production as a company so we are really looking forward to seeing our work come together and also the responses of our audience.
Why did you choose your particular Fringe venue?
We liked the Golden Goose Theatre because we felt a black box theatre would allow us the creative freedom to use the space. We also love its intimacy, which brings the audience very close to the stage and actors.
Which shows at the Fringe are you planning on watching?
As many as we can!
Have you had any major hurdles to overcome to get this production on the stage?
It has been an intense and challenging process, especially when combining the classical text with contemporary real-life experiences. On an equally important note, this is a zero-budget production.
What other productions have you previously been involved with?
All of our company members have been involved in various theatre projects and productions in and outside the UK, but this is our first production as a company.
