We Are Dave is being performed at Effa Social, 89 Effra Rd, London SW2 1DF on October 9th. I have caught up with Dave Heron to find out more about the upcoming show.

What was the inspiration behind your show?

We wanted to create a world that reflects our shared humour and intrinsic comic connection as well as our deep-rooted enjoyment of improv. Whilst the world of “We Are Dave” is still in its infancy, audiences are already seeing the style and brand of our underbelly universe, fully improvised and audience engaging.

How long has your production been in progress?

We’ve enjoyed performing at venues with smaller sets in and around London, but this is our very first full-length festival show as a collective. Our rehearsals have been so much fun, so we’re really excited to be bringing this to London audiences at the Lambeth Fringe!

Where are planning on taking the play next?

Bringing “We Are Dave” to Effra Social as part of the Lambeth Fringe is just the start. The world of “We Are Dave” will evolve, experimenting with different set-ups and show types, but maintaining the same improv style and humour. We Are Dave’s other show, “Mood Lighting”, continues to draw in audiences, a shorter set where the entire flow and dynamic is determined throughout by audience volunteers. The festival version of “We Are Dave” will continue with more festivals planned and one-off shows also in the pipeline.

What would you like audiences to take away from your show?

A thoroughly enjoyable improv comedy experience, witnessing the world of “We Are Dave”.

What are you looking forward to most about performing your show?

Creating a wholly immersive and improvised world with some wonderfully talented performers, who happen to be really good friends (!), and sharing this with a Lambeth Fringe audience!

Why did you choose your particular Fringe venue?

Effra Social is absolutely perfect for a live, improvised show. With its intimacy and immersive feel, we know it’s the optimum venue for an engaging audience experience, supporting the style and brand of improv of “We Are Dave”.

Which shows at the Fringe are you planning on watching?

We thoroughly enjoy watching other comedy shows; with so many styles out there, we’re great believers in taking inspirations from others. Improv itself is a wholly supportive art-form, both on and off-stage, so we’re looking forward to perusing the wonderful Lambeth Fringe programme and heading on out there!

Have you had any major hurdles to overcome to get this production on the stage?

The biggest challenge was developing our understanding and articulation of the shared vision for the show between all of us. We believe that we’re treading fresh improv comedy ground and have realised that the world of We Are Dave is like a civilisation. And as with all civilisations, they’re born and they evolve; something we’re so looking forward to experiencing and realising between ourselves and with audiences.

What other productions have you previously been involved with?

Dave Heron has previously improvised with “The Campfire Tales” at the Maidstone Improv Festival 2024 and was part of the Hoopla’s “Gamez”, one of London’s leading short-form improv groups, at the Brighton Fringe 2024. However, “We Are Dave” is a recently formed collective of emerging improvisers, set on delivering its brand of improv comedy to the world!
