An Interview with Rose Berry & Emilie Brittain who take on the roles of Heidi and Julie in their upcoming show at the Lambeth Fringe this October.
Name of show and Venue details.
Beyond the Sky is Your Limit with Heidi and Julie. Performing at Club Silly, Brixton.
What was the inspiration behind your show?
As Australia’s leading wellness experts, we believe that our industry is saturated with noise and false guidance from a bunch of charlatans. We’re here to debunk myths, deliver truths, and give our people the right information to take control back over their health. We thought, what better way to do that than by hosting a wellness summit at Club Silly during the Lambeth Fringe? Well, the rest is history as they say! We’re delighted to bring health and healing to the heart of Brixton.
How long has your production been in progress?
Now there’s the million dollar question! We’ve been friends since childhood and business partners for many years with over 37 years combined as practitioners in this field. Around 4 months ago, we had an epiphany – to get on the social media and start sharing our wisdom via the internet. Unsurprisingly our message resonated with the masses and we became very famous very quickly. To offer context, we have just over 100 followers and counting at this point! It was through this obvious thirst for our content we realised, we need not just a virtual stage but a physical one too. So, we did the next logical thing which was to plan our expo – an opportunity for seekers of health to be in our live presence and learn about the many ways in which we can help them.
Where are you planning on taking the play next?
Well, we hear the Edinburgh Fringe is pretty keen to have us there next year but we’ve had to let them know that we are highly sought after in other regions. Even nether ones. However, we would just love to spread our message of health and healing as far and wide as we can – to Brighton, Kent, Bedford (why not!) and eventually, one day, all across our beloved hometown of Australia. Heidi’s from the outback and knows that there are some roadies who’d really benefit from her services. Julie runs a virtual book club near Perth where they exclusively read and discuss her books so she hopes to surprise them with a visit and signing there one day too.
What would you like audiences to take away from your show?
We’d like to leave them feeling reassured that they’re finally getting the kind of honest and accurate guidance they’ve been yearning for. Gone are the days where they wonder – are eggs good for me or not? Are verrucas my friends or foes? Was I a cow in a past life? They can expect to leave with clarity surrounding their own health, feeling more connected to the other humans they’ll be sharing this safe space with and, of course, believing that beyond the sky is their limit.
What are you looking forward to most about performing your show?
As much as we are serious about our mission to revolutionise the health system, we also know the importance of fun and play within that. We’re looking forward to bringing our boundless enthusiasm, love, and laughter to our fabulous guests. It’s going to be a transformational 50 minutes designed to uplift, empower and rebirth. Bring your friends, bring your enemas. We cannot wait to share the space with so many conscious souls!
Why did you choose your particular Fringe venue?
Club Silly and us go way back. They were the first venue to host our debut Brixton Wellness Summit teaser and have been loyal champions of our work ever since. We also ran a marvelous quiz night there a couple of months ago around the theme of – you guessed it – wellness! Think questions about astrology, health myths, yogic postures and the like. All intertwined with some affirmations and somatic healing. It was truly a night to remember and Club Silly are just the most sensational bunch!
Which shows at the Fringe are you planning on watching?
Goodness… There are so many talented humans doing their thing and it’s a delight to see. Performing is such a vulnerable act. An outward expression of who we are. We are excited to get to know the artists and teams and offer them some health tips so that they feel ready to step onto the various stages at the Lambeth Fringe. Suggestions like cutting toenails to release their fears or nibbling on twiglets to loosen the jaw. Bottom clenching is also a fantastic pre-show ritual which we’ll gladly facilitate. To answer your question more precisely, these are a few of the shows we are looking forward to;
Beyond Silence – Denis’s compositions read like a spiritual journey and his show is also about what’s beyond.
Closeted. | Lambeth Fringe | Performing Arts Festival | Sept – Oct – Florence’s story is brave, brilliant and will be relatable to so many!
Between Strands | Lambeth Fringe | Performing Arts Festival | Sept – Oct – Selina’s perspective on life via the symbol of hair sounds inspirational.
Have you had any major hurdles to overcome to get this production on the stage?
Given that we are in such hot demand these days, our main hurdles were having to say no to various potential clients and opportunities! Leonardo Di Caprio reached out regarding dating advice and the Kardiashians requested a consultation to find out how we stay looking so young. Sometimes you simply have to practice the power of saying ‘no’ and that is unfortunately, something we find ourselves having to say a lot these days.
What other productions have you previously been involved with?
Heidi has been known by others as her alter-ego Emilie Brittain. Emilie is a comedy improviser, character comedian and puppeteer and loves to create extremely silly work with fellow silly people. Emilie has performed with The Free Association, Wonky World Productions and with Kite Tail Theatre Company.
Julie can be found under her alias Rose Berry. Rose is a stand-up comedian, improviser, and actor who has also performed with The Free Association, as well as Little Gems, and The Moth. She’s also a speaker, life coach (which has provided a lot of inspiration for Julie) and shares her story of overcoming public speaking phobia.
