Serafina Salvador is no stranger to performing at Fringe Festivals. I have caught up with her to find out what audiences have in store when she performs at the Lambeth Fringe this year.
Name of show and Venue details.
Date Your Ego, Marry Your Soul
Venue: The Bread & Roses Theatre, Clapham Date: 6 October 2025
What was the inspiration behind your show?
This show came out of a decades-long conversation with myself about freedom, identity, and the war between who we think we should be and who we truly are.
This questioning began in India when in the 80s, so it was made amply clear what I needed to be! ☺ However the forbidden happened! My parents split up. My mother went to the Himalayas after enrolling us in a Vedic school and my father looked after us, his sights set on a global education and work life for three of us.
Thus began my own ego and soul tussle. Its lasted 4 decades. An d I am here to tell the tale in a conscious and creative way, that is fun and entertaining.
I wanted to explore the tension between the Ego and the Soul — not as enemies, but as two characters that desperately need each other to grow. It’s theatrical therapy, a soul-slap in sequins. My whole thing is Education & Entertainment.
How long has your production been in progress?
The script has been in the making (silently) for years, but the live production began to take form in early July 2025 at our wonderful director Simone Vause’s place. We had our first table read in early summer, and since then, it’s been a fast and fierce journey of rewrites, rehearsals, and revelations.
Where are planning on taking the play next?
We’re currently seeking venues for a longer run in London this autumn – just three nights with a view to perform a full run next year. We are actively looking for a venue for a three night run in the fall of 2025.
We are small but ambitious team, and are looking to tour in 2026 — ideally in both spiritual and experimental venues across the UK and Europe.
This show belongs in places where inner growth meets performance.
What would you like audiences to take away from your show?
That we are not broken — just beautifully split and equipped by two components.
The Ego is influenced by the world that we expose ourselves to. And that the soul has a cocoon around it. So use that separation to your advantage.
The Ego isn’t the villain, and the Soul isn’t always wise. On the contrary, the Soul needs a tonne of ego bashing to improve itself and refine its desires. So really the ego is doing the soul a massive favour.
If you’ve ever asked yourself “What the hell am I doing with my life?” — this show is your answer and your permission slip to begin again and realise…you are freaking awesome champion for doing that. You are built for transcendence not to pick up the pieces of trade wars.
What are you looking forward to most about performing your show?
Being directed by Simone Vause. Simone I met through my studies and practice of Mahayana Buddhism. She is “not describable in one word” Here is her website https://simonevause.com/ . She directed my last play which was a success.
This is my second play – 6 years later and I went on such a deep I had a very interesting reproductive journey which lead to education in related fields, so I am really feeling comfortable being in Simone’s hands.
We also have Gaurav Kumar aka Gee making his debut. And I am so excited for hime. My young son will be making his debut too, Master Mackenzie Jay
I hope you can speak with Simone and Gee more than me. Because I am just so grateful and excited the have EE (Embodied Ego) and ES (Embodied Soul) on stage from my imagination, I can’t really ask for more.
Why did you choose your particular Fringe venue?
I am a Lambeth Mum. Whether I am scotting to football drop off or to school (behind the Rosie for reception) or watching a local show, The Rosie slowly built a place in my performers heart. I am so glad the play got accepted at The Rosie. I am a little concerned about the lighting system but then that’s what we have lighting engineers for.
Which shows at the Fringe are you planning on watching?
Gosh! So many. Bingles, Baby love and Money, The Immigrant play, Cat GPT to name just a few. I have to balance my work for money , work for love and family and work for art and see as much art as I can!
Have you had any major hurdles to overcome to get this production on the stage?
Yes, I still need a venue for three nights in Sep! Help!
