Hannah Whyte-Lambeth Fringe Interview.

Hannah Whyte is bringing her play to the Lambeth Fringe this year and I have caught upvwith her for a chat ahead of the Fringe starting.

Name of show:
Roger Prick: The Book Tour (WIP)

Venue details:
Vaulty Towers, 9pm, 29/30 August

What was the inspiration behind your show?
I’m inspired by greasy geezers and old pub men; I find them endlessly fascinating and hilarious – full of misplaced confidence, un-prudish attitudes and unaware of their own buffoonery. Roger Prick is a gentle satire of these sorts of men, poking fun but also created with a lot of love.

How long has your production been in progress?
Roger Prick the character has existed for roughly a year and a half, and this show in particular has been in progress since January.

Where are planning on taking the play next?
Ideally I’d like to take it to Edinburgh Fringe 2026.

What would you like audiences to take away from your show?
The show is chiefly a piece of feminist satire, so I want audiences to a) find it funny and b) think about the way they move through the world with biases and prejudice in mind. The show makes fun of men like Roger, trying their best to bumble through the ethical dilemmas of 2025 and falling short – but also asks audiences to perhaps take themselves a bit less seriously, and try to enjoy the unavoidable chaos of talking about sex, love and gender. I want them to walk away knowing that while Roger Prick has learnt something from them, they can also learn a little something from him.

What are you looking forward to most about performing your show?

I’m looking forward to taking Roger into a longform act for the first time; he has existed as part of the alternative comedy circuit in London for a long time, and made it to the finals of Sketch Off 2025, but has not yet had his own show! This opportunity will allow the character to truly come to fruition, and Roger will be more Roger than ever!

Why did you choose your particular Fringe venue?
I really wanted to find a venue that was LGBTQ+ friendly, comedy-focussed and had a strong dose of whimsy! With its wild décor and great stage space, I felt Vaulty Towers hit all of these points. The stripped back tech also makes the space feel like a ‘book tour’ setting, which is the conceit of the show.

Which shows at the Fringe are you planning on watching?
Cameron Sinclair Harris: That’s Me In the Corner, That’s Me in the Spotlight, Cameron Sinclair Harris

Jamie Byrne’s Delightful History of Cigarettes
The Blinking Buzzards
Screw Upz! (wip)
Women and Cocaine presents The Divorcee (1930)
Ordinary

Have you had any major hurdles to overcome to get this production on the stage?
I haven’t had the financial capability to take this production to Edinburgh Fringe or similarly large-scale festivals, so taking part in Lambeth Fringe which is local, affordable and accessible is a brilliant opportunity! It’s also difficult being a queer woman in comedy, so hurdles do come up in this realm as well!

What other productions have you previously been involved with?
I was a finalist in Leicester Square Theatre Sketch Off 2025, and have been involved with alternative comedy nights and production teams including Sketchy, Sketch Book, Boy Theatre, Soft Play Area and Dibneylamd.
