Steffan Alun-Edinburgh Fringe 2025.

Welsh comedian Steffan Alun has been an Edinburgh Fringe regular for the past five years and has been on the comedy circuit for over ten years and from watching his show I can see why.

The room in the Apex Hotel, Grassmarket, Edinburgh has a handy alcove where each comedian performing there can introduce themselves in the dark space,  before taking one step onto the stage. It’s all part of the Fringe experience.

As with stand-up comedians Alun begins discussing the “elephant in the room” his sexuality and what it means to be bisexual. Although when he asked the audience if anyone else was part of the community it appeared everyone was straight. Which he found unusual.

Alun explores what it means to perform stand-up and what it means to stand up for what’s right and to embrace being yourself at all costs. Topics from his MASH (popular American comedy series in the 1980s), his ADHD diagnosis, tackling online diagnosis forms and of course his home nation, Wales.

The comedy also takes the audience into an analysis of the 1990s band STEPS and the five band members’ sexuality statistics within the band compared to the outside world stats. Alun has clearly taken time to work out all the stats and turn them into a comedy set. It went down very well with the audience. Sorry, no spoilers if you want to know more then I urge you to go and catch the show.

Alun deserves a bigger stage and to continue to rise through the comedy ranks. A personable, likeable comedian who I would happily watch again.
