Backyard Alchemy and New Celts’ bring Romance on Repeat to the Edinburgh Fringe. It offers a groundhog style play where Lizzie played by Brikaih Floré is hoping to find a whirlwind romance, which she has always dreamed of and believes she is destined to find. Although we later discover that there is far more going on. What is Lizzie trying to escape from?
However, her dreams do apparently appear to come true when she is sucked into her television. Although this action wasn’t particularly clear on stage from the back of the auditorium.
From the outside everything is going perfectly. Lizzie falls for the hometown guy she once had a crush on, which means she ditches her big-city boyfriend who’s only interested in money and reconnects with her childhood best friend. What could go wrong!
Rom-com romances have been done over and over in various formats. If you are a fan of the genre then you will probably really enjoy Romance on Repeat and it’s one for you to catch at the Fringe.
The company have obviously enjoyed putting the show together and performing which is exactly what the Edinburgh Fringe is for. Beyond that, I don’t see it having further life on stage.
