Katy Baird brings her solo show to the Edinburgh Fringe 2025 at Summerhall called Get Off. Baird is quoted to say that she identifies as an “old, fat, queer, femme deviant.”
Self-reflection, pushing boundaries and self awareness are the major themes running through Baird’s performance. At times when things become overwhelming calls speaks to her therapist via Zoom.
Baird uses different physical theatre methods during her performance to shock and challenge her audience. Nothing and I mean nothing is left to the imagination. You are confronted with images and discussions you would probably not have. That’s what is great about Fringe Theatre, being out of your comfort zone and experiencing new productions.
The idea behind the show is to create a shared space on the stage that Baird can use to welcome some of the audience to join her and dance. There were a lot of volunteers too who appeared to be really enjoying themselves.
There is some disgusting and inappropriate content worked into Get Off which will challenge the audience at times. However, my impression was that if you want to share Baird’s space then you have to accept all of her at her worst as well as her best.
It’s more of an experience theatre performance than a sit-back and watch. I can guarantee what you see is what you will get.
