Everybody “apparently” wants to be famous. Artist and creative Alison Jackson‘s Faking Famous can make dreams come true if being a famous lookalike is your dream.
The show is fun, uplifting and puts a mirror up to the world of fame. Jackson creates a show similar to Spitting Image with human lookalikes rather than creating puppets. Turning her models into caricatures of the famous person who can perform some outrageous scenes that from a distance could appear to be genuine.
Jackson showed the audience footage of when she visited the USA with her fake Trump and filmed him outside Trump Towers in some compromising positions. From the footage the crowds loved it and thought it was real. Which it wasn’t.
There’s also plenty of rivalry fighting footage staged with lookalike models of the Royal Family. On one occasion the Police let the fake version of the “King and Camilla” into the front of Buckingham Palace, but soon escorted them out when they realised their mistake.
It was also the perfect year to bring her own version of the Gallagher Brothers to Edinburgh and they even spent some time outside Murrayfield Stadium.
Jackson is an incredible artist who pushes the boundaries and shows how absurd the thirst for celebrity status can be. You definitely will not see another show like this at the Edinburgh Fringe, brilliant entertainment.
