Tom Hiccup’s Well-Edinburgh Fringe 2025.

Tom Hiccup’s Well by Charlotte Ball is a dark and twisted folk tale brought to the stage by Ellie Ball. The 45-minute play is a good way to start your Fringe day as you don’t have to walk home when it’s dark.

If you have ever had the hiccups then you might have been visited by Tom Hiccup! He isn’t something or someone you want to provoke or upset as revenge and seeking retribution is his aim. You have nothing to fear as long as you don’t cross his path.

Ball is an exceptionally talented storyteller who performance draws the audience into the world where the heinous crime is committed. You can see every detail of the murder through Ball’s descriptions and retelling of the scenes. At times you can’t help but wince at the thoughts of what took place.

It offers a precautionary tale that maybe there’s some truth behind these old folk lore tales and things that are unexplained can happen when you least expect them.

This Edinburgh Fringe there are limited performances, although I understand there is a view to bring the play back next year and it’s definitely one to watch out for and put on your “must see” list.

Tom Hiccup’s Well is being performed by Ball alongside her other successful one-woman play The Red Room which is on alternate days in the same Greenside Venue.
