Stepping away from the usual Magic show formula. Mason King brought a new style of show to the Edinburgh Fringe called The Mind Spy. King blends magic, mystery and mind-reading which he was inspired by, from the real-life psychic research of Project Stargate.

In the fifty-minute show, the audience becomes the test students. Finding out whether or not they have what it takes to become a Mind Spy agent and use psychic powers to solve crimes and be ready for recruitment.

King has a calming presence and is completely in control of the show throughout the performance and he appears to be following commands from higher up which come through as telephone calls after each task.

There is audience participation as the idea is to recruit new mind spies. However, it is voluntary and the instructions you are given are clear and easy to follow.

From the success rates of the experiments completed by the audience members in the show I watched, the sign-up rate would have been very high.

Although the run at Edinburgh Fringe 2025 has finished. King is planning on returning with the show next year although it will have been reworked. King can also be found on tour or available for private functions throughout the year.
