Walk With Me-Review from EIFF 2025.

Walk With Me follows the lives of Heidi and Charlie Levitt. As a casting director and director Heidi uses her skills to make a documentary film over the years about the life-changing diagnosis of Alzheimer’s that Charlie receives.

The couple shares hospital visits, brain scans and exhaust every possible avenue to try and understand what happens as the condition worsens and if there’s a glimmer of hope to either slow the process down or stop it temporarily.

It’s an emotionally provoking film which leaves you wondering what you would do if you faced the same situation and who would be there to stand by your side.

Throughout the film I watched Heidi challenge Charlie less and learn that arguments wouldn’t be resolved as he simply couldn’t remember what he was doing or how to do something.

The bond and love between them is reflected in the flashbacks to their wedding day where they danced and enjoyed the day together unaware of what the future had in store.

Documenting the effects of alzheimers allows those caring for family and loved ones in similar situations to the couple, to have an insight into the behaviour of the patient and how to care for them.

Heidi is not taking Charlie’s outbursts personally by the end and learning how to navigate the moods and outbursts, while he is slowly being claimed by the disease.

The cinematography captures the seasons changing as the progression of the disease changes and becomes worse.
