Note of Concern-Edinburgh Fringe 2025.

It’s the night of a school reunion. Alec (Jordan Monks) and Scott (Will Evans) haven’t seen each other in a good few years and we find out that there’s a good reason for this. With past grievances still at the front of Alec’s mind he isn’t too happy when he finds himself stuck in the classroom with Scott.

The stage is set as a classroom with an old roll-top blackboard with their old English teacher’s name across the top. Alec can’t resist changing her name into something else just like he had all those years ago and temporarily reverting to being a teenager.

When Scott bursts into the room after being chased by some other guys playing “tag” he grabs the door handle too hard and it comes off in his hand. Shocked to see each other again the conversation is frosty at the start of it and neither know what to say.

However, when a “couple” go into the room next door their attention is removed from being stuck in the room together to being repulsed by what they are listening to.

The reunion offers more discoveries and secrets than they had anticipated and to try and get out they need to follow clues left behind by their old English teacher and find a way to mend the door handle in order to get out of the room.

There’s a touch of nostalgia in Note of Concern as I remember those blackboards and the awful squeaking noises they made, yes we had school students who would change teachers’ names too because it was funny. The rapport on stage with Monks and Evans is strong and they were believable, with well-timed and delivered humour.
