Goodness Me-Edinburgh Fringe 2025.

Goodness Me by Ioana Goga is a one-woman show about a heartbroken lady called Celeste whose Furby has started to talk to her and start guiding her life as a newly single thirty-something woman. Now we all know a Furby has a basic vocabulary but this one is different and can articulate perfectly.

Furby challenges Celeste and stops her spiralling into the depressive abyss she is heading towards at a quick speed, as Celeste tries to make sense of why her boyfriend has split with her. She doesn’t mind being alone she just doesn’t want to be without him.

It’s an insight into how “we” process the loss and grief of a failed relationship. Which has been made harder by the fact that there is nothing or nobody to blame. Just a case of growing in different directions, which is often the case. If you have a reason you can be angry and justify it more easily. Without that internal reflection can be deeper and soul-searching which we witness Celeste doing.

I especially liked the design and illustrations used in the cardboard props used throughout the performance and the projected room of her flat on the screen behind Goga where the level of tidiness changes as she begins to heal and take pride in her home once again.

My only criticism is the comments about what it must be like being middle-aged honestly it’s nothing to fear and we don’t just disappear into our living rooms with hot chocolate and knitting,  there’s plenty of life left to be lived in “us” yet!

The story offers hope and shows that their can and will be life after a relationship.
