It’s loud, bold and full of energy in the OUTERNET basement venue opposite Tottenham Court Road Tube Station.
The Diana Mixtape stars a host of exceptional drag superstars Courtney Act, Divina De Campo, Rosè, Kitty Scott-Claus and Piriyanka in the shared role of Diana Princess of Wales.

Keala Settle who starred in The Greatest Showman gave an incredible performance in the role of Queen Elizabeth II fully in command of the stage at all times and in the Musical number “commander” left everyone in no doubt who was head of the Royal Family and would lead from the front.

Charles played by Noel Sullivan plays the cheating husband along with his co-star Lucinda Lawrence in the role of chain smoking Camilla. Their affair is public knowledge and the famous interview with Martin Bashir where Diana said “There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.” It is delivered perfectly word for word.

The fairytale Princess story is well documented and what took place between Diana and Charles has been repeated over and over again. The Diana Mixtape breaks the storyline down to the facts through a musical timeline. It was documented how much she loved music and the choices were excellent although due to her death in 1997 some of these tracks she would never have heard. They make a good soundtrack to her life.
Wig designer River Medway brings the infamous blonde Diana look to life for each of the five drag artists. Camilla’s wig is accurate and I realised that her hairstyle hasn’t particularly changed over the years.
There’s no big reveals or spoiler alerts in the Musical although they touch on the affair with James Hewitt and the doubt over whether the relationship between Diana and Dodi Fayed was going to be her happy ever after, we will never know the truth.

I especially liked a line towards the end of the Musical where one of the Dianas declares that “Diana would approve of a musical in drag about her life” (paraphrased) and I have to agree with this as she loved people and wanted to have fun. This Musical certainly delivers plenty of that reminding us that she said “I’d like to be a queen in people’s hearts.”
