Caroline McEvoy returns to the Edinburgh Fringe this year and I haven’t caught up with Caroline in the final week before the Edinburgh madness begins.
When were you last performing at the Edinburgh Fringe?
I did a work-in-progress in the final week of last year’s Edinburgh Fringe, and short runs in 2023 and 2022. This year marks my first full month at the festival.
What was the name of your previous show?
In 2024, it was ‘Glass Child’ – a randomly chosen title which didn’t end up having much to do with the show. In 2023, it was ‘Street Smart’ (something I am not). And in 2022, I performed in ‘60 Minutes to Self-Destruct’ as a split bill with fellow comedian Farah Sharp.
How long has your current show been running for?
This is the world premiere of ‘Train Man’, and my debut comedy hour! It’s a stand-up, storytelling show about growing up in post-Troubles Northern Ireland with my disabled brother, who loves trains and getting his way.
Do you have any “good luck” rituals you undertake before performing?
I’m Irish. I don’t need “good luck” rituals. I am inherently lucky.
How have you found booking accommodation this year?
Overpriced.
What three pieces of advice would you give to first-timers going to the Fringe?
- Stay hydrated.
- Bring a brolly.
- Come to my show at Assembly Roxy, Roxyboxy, every day at 1:20pm and I’ll give you a big cuddle.
What are your plans after the Edinburgh Fringe is over?
I’m heading straight to bed for a week. Then I’m flying to Ireland to bring ‘Train Man’ to Dublin Fringe.
Please feel free to add anything else you would like to include. Please pass on any links you would like added at the end of the interview.
